Changes in recent releases

(revised 3/10/2008)

Release 2008.01b differs from release 2008.01a as follows:

  • Form 8910 added. (Standard and Premium Levels only.) This form is used to claim the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, which includes both a business and personal credit for purchase hybrid and other favored vehicles.
  • Form 3468 posting added. Total basis of energy properties entered on line 2 of Form 3468 is now posted to the corresponding component of Schedule K, line 20c. You must still itemize the line on Schedule K to explain the posted number, but you no longer have to enter the total basis on Schedule K yourself.
  • Form 8834 posting revised. The result of Form 8834 (Qualified Electric Vehicle Credit) is now passed through our Form 8910 before posting to Schedule K because the new Form 8910 shares the line on Schedule K formerly used for Form 8834 alone. Therefore, once you create a Form 8910 you must enter the Form 8834 credit below line 10 of Form 8910 or else the Form 8834 credit will not be included on Schedule K. (This is all automatic for the Premium Level, which is the only level that includes Form 8834.)
  • Aesthetic changes. All other changes relate to on-screen aesthetics and minor typographical errors.

Release 2008.01a differs from release 2008.01 as follows:

  • Three forms added to the Premium Level. (Premium Level only) Forms omitted from our initial release because of their late releases by the IRS are now included in the Premium Level software:
    • Form 2848. Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative. Because the IRS has repeatedly postponed the release of the promised new version of this form, we have installed the March 2004 version, which is still being accepted by the IRS. The IRS now anticipates a release date of 2/26/2008 for the new version of this form.
    • Form 6765. Credit for Increasing Research Activities. Contrary to last year, Sections A, B, and C of this form are now mutually exclusive. You can claim only one of the three types of credit.
    • Form 8611. Recapture of Low-Income Housing Credit. Only the revision date has changed on this form, and the instructions have changed only due to clarifications for lines 1, 11, and 14 so it's unclear why the IRS delayed the release of this form!
  • e-file compatibility. Potential problems with 1040 e-file after installing Partnership edition are eliminated with this release.
